In 2012 Alice began experimenting with making jewellery as a meditative process to break from her job as a Graphic Designer. She started teaching herself the ancient tradition of jewellery making called the Lost Wax Technique – a process whereby each piece is first carved from wax by hand, and then cast in precious metals. This sculptural practice means a great deal of texture can be created in the wax model and holds these details in the final metal piece.
A focus on sustainability and local manufacture is of huge importance at The Line of Sun, with every scrap of metal saved during the working process, and at the end of every season the remainder of pieces are melted down to create new works.
All pieces from The Line of Sun are designed and handcrafted in Melbourne.
