Welcoming Lee Mathews
The brand genesis of Lee Mathews is the stuff of cinematic narrative: a creative who was an illustrator and art director for Vogue Australia starts making clothes for herself and her friends on the kitchen table, upgrading to a small workshop in Sydney’s Newport when demand increased and babies and dressmaking pins became incompatible.
By retaining the core belief that she should simply, ‘make good things,’ the brand has navigated its way, quietly but determinedly, to be a global fashion force selling not only locally in Australia but through respected international platforms as well.
We welcome Lee Mathews to the Kind Curations family with their Pre-Fall 2021 Collection. Inspired by the Bloomsbury Group and the rich artful interiors and wild gardens of the Charleston House, the collection offers a discerning sense of escapism mixed with English sensibility – a direction that pays homage to the influences behind Lee’s own artistic career and practice.
An ode to her time living in London during the 80’s, Lee Mathews incorporates subtle punk references with chunky vests and oversized anoraks but underpins the range with flowing dresses and feminine pleating that are signature to the brand’s DNA.
